Your pet's needs are always our #1 priority
Millions of unwanted cats and dogs, including kittens and puppies, are euthanized each year. As a responsible pet owner, you can do your part to prevent the birth of unwanted cats and dogs by having your pet spayed or neutered at Village Animal Hospital.
Sterilization removes certain reproductive organs and will help prevent unwanted litters, protect against health issues, and reduce behavioral issues caused by breeding and mating instincts.
For female cats and dogs, ovariohysterectomy, or spaying, is a procedure that includes the removal of the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and uterus. This will make her unable to reproduce. Removing a female dog or cat’s ovaries eliminates heat cycles and generally reduces breeding behaviors. Early spaying also helps protect them from serious health problems later in life, such as uterine infections and breast cancer.
An orchiectomy, also known as neutering, is the removal of the testes from a male cat or dog to make them unable to reproduce. Removing the testes from male dogs and cats reduces the breeding instinct, which makes them less likely to roam and more content to stay at home. Neutering your male cat or dog can also lessen the risk of developing benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate gland) and testicular cancer.
